How can pool coping slabs be jointed properly and durably? Our latest practical video shows vdw 885 plus FugenFlex being applied directly on site.
The video not only offers valuable guidance on correct application, it also shows which accessories are needed for professional execution.
Note: the video is narrated and subtitled in German.
What matters during application?
- Prepare the substrate: the joints must be clean, dry and load-bearing, and free from dust and residues that reduce adhesion.
- Insert the PE backing rod: the vdw PE backing rod is fitted before jointing. It limits the joint depth and prevents three-sided adhesion, so the elastic joint sealant can absorb movement properly.
- Protect the joint edges: with sensitive, absorbent or textured surfaces, masking the joint edges is recommended. With smooth ceramic slabs this is not strictly necessary if the work is carried out cleanly.
- Apply the joint sealant: apply vdw 885 plus FugenFlex evenly into the joint, avoiding air bubbles as far as possible. Make sure there is full contact with both joint flanks.
- Smooth the joint: the joint is then cleanly finished using vdw smoothing agent and a suitable smoothing tool.
