2K Paving Joint Mortar
vdw 800 2K-PflasterfugenMörtel is the well-known classic among paving joint systems with a broad range of applications for paver and clinker surfacings. Suitable for jointing natural stone paving, concrete stone paving and clinker surfacings in pedestrian zones and passages, likewise for jointing patios, creating garden paths and paving garage driveways.
Requirements Stable, load-bearing, permanently water-permeable substrate corresponding to the expected loads. Joint depth > 30 mm (for trafficked areas we recommend full joint depth), joint width > 5 mm, exterior and surface temperature from 7 °C, max. 30 °C.
Tools Forced-action mixer or free-fall mixer, drill with mixing basket for smaller quantities, water hose with spray nozzle, mortar tub, wheelbarrow, rubber squeegee and coconut broom.
Test area With natural and concrete stone paving, contact between vdw 800 2K-PflasterfugenMörtel and the stone surface may cause visual changes. In general we strongly recommend laying out a test area.
Pre-wetting Pre-wet the area thoroughly.
Mixing the paving joint mortar Mix the homogeneously pre-mixed mineral aggregates with the binder component — the contents of the binder bottle enclosed in the bag or bucket — plus twice that amount of water, in a forced-action mixer (5 minutes), a free-fall mixer (8 minutes) or with a drill and mixing basket in a mortar tub (5 minutes).
Filling the joints Pull the mortar across the paving over the full area with a hard-rubber squeegee and work it intensively into the joints.
Sweeping off After approx. 15 to 20 minutes (at 20 °C), sweep off excess, earth-moist mortar from the surface with a damp coconut broom until it is completely removed. Do not sweep mortar residues into still-open joints. Clean the broom in water frequently.
Aftercare Cordon off and protect from moisture for a min. of 12 hours (do not lay film directly on the paving area, ensure ventilation underneath). The area can be opened to traffic after 7 days.

Guide values in kg per m² at 30 mm joint depth
| Stone format | Joint width 5 mm | Joint width 8 mm | Joint width 10 mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural stone 10 × 10 cm | approx. 4.57 kg/m² | approx. 7.11 kg/m² | approx. 8.73 kg/m² |
| Paver 20 × 10 cm | approx. 3.46 kg/m² * | approx. 5.4 kg/m² | approx. 6.65 kg/m² |
| Large slab 60 × 40 cm | approx. 0.99 kg/m² * | approx. 1.57 kg/m² * | approx. 1.96 kg/m² * |
The values apply to stones cut on all sides laid in rows. Consumption rises in proportion to joint depth: twice the depth means twice the quantity.
