2K Self-Compacting Joint Mortar
vdw 850 plus 2K joint mortar, self-compacting is the top all-rounder among paving joint mortars — workable even at low temperatures and in rain, with almost no binder film. Excellently suited for trafficked surfaces: for jointing natural stone paving, concrete paving and clinker paving on trafficked areas.
Requirements Stable, load-bearing, permanently water-permeable substrate. Joint depth ≥ 30 mm (full joint depth on trafficked surfaces), joint width continuously ≥ 5 mm, surface and outdoor temperature at least 3 °C to max. 25 °C.
Test area With natural stone and concrete paving, contact between vdw 850 plus and the stone surface may cause visual changes. As a general rule, we recommend laying out a test area.
Pre-wetting Pre-wet the surface thoroughly. Always use clean, cold tap water for pre-wetting and cleaning!
Mixing the joint mortar Pre-mix the mineral aggregate–binder mix, then add the liquid binder and mix homogeneously for approx. 3 minutes. No water may be added to the mixture!
Filling the joints Immediately pull the mortar across the entire wet surface with the hard-rubber squeegee and work it intensively into the joints. As flowability decreases, lightly re-wet the mortar with a water spray jet. Keep the surface constantly wet during application. It is advisable to carry out the jointing from the highest to the lowest point.
Sweeping/Cleaning Immediately clean off excess mortar with a water spray jet without washing out the joints. Sweep off the last mortar residues with a damp coconut broom.

Guide values in kg per m² at 30 mm joint depth
| Stone format | Joint width 5 mm | Joint width 8 mm | Joint width 10 mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural stone 10 × 10 cm | approx. 4.86 kg/m² | approx. 7.56 kg/m² | approx. 9.27 kg/m² |
| Paver 20 × 10 cm | approx. 3.67 kg/m² * | approx. 5.74 kg/m² | approx. 7.06 kg/m² |
| Large slab 60 × 40 cm | approx. 1.05 kg/m² * | approx. 1.67 kg/m² * | approx. 2.08 kg/m² * |
The values apply to stones cut on all sides laid in rows. Consumption rises in proportion to joint depth: twice the depth means twice the quantity.
