Together with our application engineering team, we were recently out in the area covered by our field representative Sven Sommer — more precisely in Kiel, the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein.

Right in front of Kiel city hall, in the middle of the city centre, a sample surface for a protected cycle lane (GRS) was created together with the City of Kiel. The focus was on integrating a traffic island, which was executed as a sample surface.

From the first idea to on-site realisation

The background to the project: in the past, the surface had repeatedly caused problems with hot-applied and thermoplastic materials. Cracking and rapid wear meant that an alternative, durable solution was sought.

The first contact with the City of Kiel was made at a congress held as part of the Deutsche Pflastertage. That initial exchange first led to a sample surface at the city’s municipal works yard. Now the next step has been successfully taken: application directly on the object and under real conditions.

The work was carried out together with the contractor on site and our northern German sales partner Team Infra.

Achieving project success together

The project impressively demonstrates what concrete projects can grow out of good dialogue, partnership-based cooperation and close support for our customers and partners. The interplay of application engineering, field sales, sales partners, contractors and municipalities makes it possible to implement innovative solutions directly on site.

And alongside the actual project, no time was wasted either: the civil engineering contractor present was given an impromptu briefing on applying vdw 855 on the traffic island.

Many thanks to everyone involved for the good cooperation and the successful work on site!
