2K Slab Joint Mortar
vdw 815 ultra 2K-PlattenfugenMörtel is the slab joint mortar for narrow joints from 4 mm. Highly flowable, self-compacting and workable even at low temperatures and in rain. Almost no binder film. Ideal, for example, when laying terrace slabs, creating garden paths and driveways.
Requirements Stable, load-bearing, permanently water-permeable substrate. Joint depth ≥ 30 mm (for trafficked areas full joint depth), joint width continuously ≥ 4 mm, exterior and surface temperature min. 3 °C up to max. 25 °C.
Test area With some natural and concrete stone slabs, contact between vdw 815 ultra and the stone surface may cause visual changes. In general we recommend laying out a test area.
Pre-wetting Pre-wet the area thoroughly. When pre-wetting and cleaning off, always use clean and cold tap water!
Mixing the joint mortar Pre-mix the mineral aggregate, then add the binder and mix homogeneously with a drill and mixing basket for approx. 3 minutes. Unmixed components must not be processed. No water may be added to the mixture.
Filling the joints Immediately work the mortar intensively into the joints with the hard-rubber squeegee and a light water spray until the joints are completely filled. During application the area should be kept constantly wet. It is advisable to carry out the jointing from the highest to the lowest point.
Sweeping off/Cleaning Clean off excess mortar immediately with a light water spray jet until it is completely removed from the surface. Ensure that cleaning is carried out towards not-yet-jointed areas. Sweep off the last mortar residues with a damp coconut broom.
Aftercare Cordon off the freshly jointed areas for a period of at least 24 hours, or until the paving surface is no longer sticky. After that the areas can take foot traffic. The areas can be opened to traffic after 3 to 5 days at the earliest.

Guide values in kg per m² at 30 mm joint depth
| Stone format | Joint width 4 mm | Joint width 5 mm | Joint width 8 mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural stone 10 × 10 cm | approx. 4.44 kg/m² | approx. 5.5 kg/m² | approx. 8.56 kg/m² |
| Paver 20 × 10 cm | approx. 3.35 kg/m² | approx. 4.16 kg/m² | approx. 6.5 kg/m² |
| Large slab 60 × 40 cm | approx. 0.95 kg/m² | approx. 1.19 kg/m² | approx. 1.89 kg/m² |
The values apply to stones cut on all sides laid in rows. Consumption rises in proportion to joint depth: twice the depth means twice the quantity. A 10 % surcharge is already included.
