1K Joint Mortar
vdw 840 plus 1K-FugenMörtel is the ready-to-use, pre-mixed joint mortar that is simply washed into the joints — for areas with foot traffic: just open the bucket, cut open the PE film, distribute in partial quantities on the area, wash in with water, sweep off, done! Specially for factory-impregnated or sealed surfaces. Suitable for natural stone and concrete stone paving, slabs and clinker surfacings on garden paths, in house entrance areas and on patios with purely pedestrian loads.
Compared with conventional air-curing 1K joint mortars, vdw 840 plus 1K-FugenMörtel is distinguished by higher strength and the option of washing the mortar into the joints with a water jet.
Requirements Stable and permanently water-permeable substrate. Joint depth ≥ 30 mm, joint width min. 3 mm, max. 20 mm, exterior and surface temperature ≥ 5 °C, max. 25 °C.
Tools Knife, hard-rubber squeegee, coconut broom and water hose with spray nozzle.
Test area With natural and concrete stone paving, contact between vdw 840 plus 1K-FugenMörtel and the stone surface may cause visual changes. In general we strongly recommend laying out a test area.
Filling the joints Cut open the PE bag. Pre-wet the surface thoroughly. Then distribute the mortar portion by portion on the area and wash it into the joints with a soft water jet and hard-rubber squeegee. Clean excess mortar residues off the paving surface with a water spray jet, without washing out the joints. Sweep off the paving surface with a damp coconut broom and smooth the joint surface in the process. Chamfers must be swept clear.

Guide values in kg per m² at 30 mm joint depth
| Stone format | Joint width 3 mm | Joint width 4 mm | Joint width 5 mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural stone 10 × 10 cm | approx. 2.88 kg/m² | approx. 3.81 kg/m² | approx. 4.71 kg/m² |
| Paver 20 × 10 cm | approx. 2.17 kg/m² | approx. 2.87 kg/m² | approx. 3.56 kg/m² |
| Large slab 60 × 40 cm | approx. 0.61 kg/m² | approx. 0.82 kg/m² | approx. 1.02 kg/m² |
The values apply to stones cut on all sides laid in rows. Consumption rises in proportion to joint depth: twice the depth means twice the quantity.
